Cytisus or Broom flowers are an vital part in the food chain of insects, very colourful and essential to nature
The Cytisus or Broom is an interesting plant as it assimilates mainly via its green upstanding branches; it has only few leaves so the branches do the job. The shrub flowers abundantly with thousands of flowers in strong colours. To many insects the flowering of the broom is a haven in (late) spring, it provides essential nectar and pollen in a period in between spring and summer.
Tip: Trim Broom direct after flowering as it will make new buds on the re-growth after the trimming, you avoid by doing so that the shrub becomes leggy.
